Heike Langhans (born 9 February 1988), sometimes known as Heike Van Dominic is a South African singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based in Säffle, Sweden.[1] She is best known as the vocalist in the Swedish gothic/doom metal band Draconian.[2][3]

Background[edit]

Langhans was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa. She is of German descent.[4] She began to take an interest in writing music at a very young age. [5]. As a teenager she became interested in Heavy Metal. Langhans would borrow her father's Pink Floyd and Meat Loaf albums and would play them repeatedly. [5] She was more drawn to gothic, symphonic and doom metal respectively due to its emotional aspect. [5] She joined her first band at 15 years of age.[5]

Musical career[edit]

Inferium (2005–2010)[edit]

In 2005, Langhans became the lead vocalist of an obscure symphonic metal band called Inferium under the alias of Heike Van Dominic.[6] In 2010, they disbanded due to financial and time issues.[5]

Draconian (2012–present)[edit]

Following the departure of Lisa Johanssen in 2011[7], Draconian announced via Facebook that they were looking for a new female vocalist.[8] Langhans sent an application with some demo material to the band, and was asked to attend an audition in February 2012. Afterwards, she received news that they would like her to join the band. [9] She then relocated to Sweden from South Africa.[10][3]

Side projects[edit]

:LOR3L3I:[edit]

Lorelei is a dark electronic solo project in which Langhans plays and writes all the music since 2006. In February 2020, she released a compilation album consisting of all her demo songs plus 3 new songs which were recorded between 2004 and 2014 through Bandcamp.[11]

ISON (2015–2020)[edit]

In 2015, Langhans formed the post-rock drone band ISON with her then-boyfriend Daniel Änghede (Crippled Black Phoenix, Hearts of Black Science)[12] in which she wrote all their lyrics and co wrote the music. On December 14th, it was announced on ISON's Instagram page that she had left the band [13]. Whilst in ISON, she released 2 EPs and their debut album.[14]

Light Field Reverie[edit]

In 2020, Langhans formed atmospheric metal band Light Field Reverie, along with Mike Lamb and Scotty Lodge.[15] On November 19, 2020, they released their debut album called Another World in which she contributed with vocals, music, lyrics, and album cover.[5]

Remina[edit]

In 2021, Langhans and Mike Lamb (Sojourner, Light Field Reverie) formed the atmospheric doom metal band Remina.[16] She provides the vocals, lyrics, and synths.[17]

Influences[edit]

When asked what her musical influences are she mentions Fields of The Nephilim, The Awakening, Sisters of Mercy, The Cure, Type O Negative, Dead Can Dance and Lycia.[5] She also goes on to mention Diary Of Dreams, Tiamat, Tristania, Paradise Lost, Anathema, Sins Of Thy Beloved, Katatonia, Draconian, and My Dying Bride.[5]

She enjoys making art and playing video games in her spare time.[9]
