Heinz Indermaur is a Swiss lawyer and politician. He currently serves as the head of social services of the city of St. Gallen. In his capacity as the head of social services, he also serves as the vice president of the St. Gallen Conference of Social Assistance.

Biography[edit]

Heinz Indermaur grew up in Berneck, Switzerland.[1] He is a member of the In der Maur family. He worked in a commercial apprenticeship program before graduating from secondary school.[2] He earned the rank of sergeant in the Swiss Armed Forces, serving in the 12th Territorial Brigade.[1] Indermaur became a licensed lawyer after completing his legal studies at the University of St. Gallen in 2001, later earning a business degree there in 2005. From 2006 to 2008 he held an apprenticeship as an arbitrator.[2] He is married to Vera Indermaur-Hänggi, has a son and a daughter, and works in the insurance industry.[1][3]

Political career[edit]

Indermaur joined the executive secretariat of the city of St. Gallen in 2001 after earning his law degree. He held various positions there, including head of legal services and deputy director of the secretariat.[2] In September 2008 he was elected as a member of the Christlichdemokratische Volkspartei der Schweiz (CVP) to serve on the school board for Oberstufe Mittelrheintal district on behalf of Berneck.[4] In April 2009 Indermaur was unanimously elected president of the Berneck chapter of the CVP by the local party leadership.[5]

On 1 August 2009, following election by the city council, he became the secretary of the social and security department of St. Gallen.[2] In 2012 he sought the presidency of the Berneck municipality, but lost the election 687 to 613 votes.[6] In late 2016 he was elected by the city council to serve as the head of social services. Indermaur assumed the role on 1 May 2017.[7] He serves as the vice president of the St. Gallen Conference of Social Assistance.[8]
