Helga Franz (born 1961 in Bamberg) is a German artist and photographer.[1][2]

Biography[edit]

Franz completed studies at Academy of Fine Arts, Karlsruhe from 1980 to 1985 and the University of Fine Arts of Hamburg from 1985 to 1986. After her studies in Germany, she worked at several foreign universities, and came back to Germany in 1991. From 1993 to 2001, she served as the head of the sculpture and objects department at Leipzig University.[3]

For her work she has received a number of grants and recognitions in Germany. Some of them are displayed in public spaces such as schools, district courts, and museums of Berlin and other German cities. One of her latest works, "Justitia", was selected as the first prize in the competition of art in architecture 2021 for the Borna district court in province Saxonia. This object was installed to symbolize an transparent and neutral judiciary and serves as a significant landmark for visitors and locals.[4]

  • 1999: Color and Light, elemental, Oberstufenzentrum TIEM in Spandau, Berlin, selected as the first prize in the competition of art in architecture held by district office Spandau, Berlin[11]
