Hell Is Real is an annual soccer rivalry between Ohio's two Major League Soccer clubs: FC Cincinnati and Columbus Crew SC. The name comes from a Christian-themed billboard on Interstate 71, the highway between Columbus and Cincinnati.[2]
Background

The Hell is Real match[3] occurred when Ohio's two professional soccer teams were drawn together in the fourth round of the US Open Cup in 2017.[2][4] FC Cincinnati advanced to defeat Major League Soccer team Chicago Fire on penalties following a scoreless draw in the round of 16,[5] and defeated North American Soccer League team Miami FC in a quarterfinal.[6] Cincinnati was eliminated in extra time by the New York Red Bulls in the semifinals.[7]
