Hendrik von Kuenheim is a Senior Vice President of Asia Pacific (excluding China), Eastern Europe (outside EU), the Middle East and South Africa region at BMW Group. He is heading the region Asia-Pacific besides his role as regional president for Africa, Russia, Importer Markets Eastern Europe, and the Middle East. Hendrik started his career at BMW back in 1985 and since then has been in charge of several management functions within BMW globally as well as General Director for BMW Motorrad. Thanks to his outstanding sales and marketing operations,[citation needed] the BMW Group has integrated the Asia Pacific region (excluding China), Eastern Europe (outside the EU), the middle East and Africa into a new single sales region.

Biography[edit]

Hendrik von Kuenheim was born on May 24, 1959, in Hannover, Germany in the family of Eberhard von Kuenheim who was Chairman of the executive board (effectively CEO) of the BMW Group between 1970 and 1993. He is a big fan of cars.[citation needed] In his personal garage BMW Z1, X5, X3, and F650 GS (motorcycle). Lived in: Germany, South Africa, USA, United Arab Emirates, Canada and Spain. Speaks German, English, French and Spanish.

Career[edit]

Despite being the son of former BMW CEO and European Automotive Hall of Fame member Eberhard von Kuenheim, Hendrik began his professional life in the hotel industry. Hendrik holds a Diploma in Hotel Management Finance and Administration, Munich. Besides, he holds a Diploma in Hotel Management, Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, USA. Von Kuenheim started as a trainee in San Francisco, California, in 1985. Later in 1986, he moved to Long Beach next to Los Angeles to be port operations manager where he was supervising the transportation of 40,000 BMW cars a year. After a short period of working in the US Midwest and in Germany, he moved to the United Arab Emirates. Arriving after the first Gulf War, he helped BMW to establish itself in the Middle East. Before taking over BMW Spain von Kuenheim was CEO of BMW Canada. During his six years in the country, BMW's sales have risen from 7,701 units in 1998 to 19,938, which included 2,800 MINI, in 2004. From January 1, 2008, Hendrik was a General Director BMW Motorrad.

Later on, in 2012 he became a Senior Vice President Region Asia, Pacific, and South Africa, Munich. From February 1, 2019, he is heading the region Asia-Pacific besides his role as regional president for Africa, Russia, Importer Markets Eastern Europe, and the Middle East. These regions were combined in one sales region in order to exploit the potential of these dynamically developing markets with synergy effects. In one of his interviews, Mr. von Kuenheim said that his career highlights are: Overseeing the start of complete knockdown production in Egypt; opening BMW Toronto, the largest luxury-brand dealership in Canada; and BMW Canada being No. 1 in J.D. Power and Associates' 2004 Canadian Sales Satisfaction Study.
