Henry Chukwuemeka Uro-Chukwu was born on 14 May 1969 in Afikpo North of Ebonyi State, Nigeria.
Early life and education[edit]
Uro-Chukwu attended Government Secondary School, Afikpo where he obtained distinctions in the West African Examination Council exams. He gained admission into University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria where he studied Medical Sciences, Medicine and Surgery, graduating with B.Med Sc. (Hons) and M.B;B.S degrees following which he was licensed to practice Medicine and Surgery by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria[1] in 1995. He further obtained a Master of Science, Public Health degree with specialization in Nutrition and Healthcare from University of Westminster, London, England in 2002.[2]; a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the National Open University of Nigeria in 2015 and another Master of Science degree in Health Policy and Health systems at Ebonyi State University, Nigeria. He equally holds MSc (Food Chemistry and Biochemistry) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Food Science and Technology, specializing in Human Nutrition from Ebonyi State University, Nigeria in 2018. In 2020 he enrolled for an MSc degree in Clinical Nutrition from University of Aberdeen, Scotland, United Kingdom.
Academic career[edit]
He is an Associate Professor of Public Health and Nutritional Biochemistry in the Department of Community Medicine, Ebonyi State University, Nigeria and visiting Associate Professor, Coal City University, Enugu, Nigeria.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Public Health, United Kingdom, Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health, United Kingdom,[3] Fellow of African Institute for Health Policy and Health Systems (WHO Collaboration Centre), Nigeria; Fellow of The Society for Health Policy Research and Knowledge Translation, Nigeria; Professional Member of the Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology, Member of The Nutrition Society, United Kingdom,[4] and Member of Health Systems Global.[5]
He is the first Physician in Africa to earn a PhD in Food Science and Technology.[6][7]
He represented Nigeria in the EVIPNet panel in the HSG conference in Canada in 2016.[8] He is a reviewer to many International Journals and Professional Conferences including Health Research Policy and Systems Journal[9]; African Journal of Reproductive Health[10]; Food and Nutrition Research Journal [11] and a member of the Scientific Committee for the Health Systems Global Conferences.[12] His current research interests are in Nutritional Biochemistry,Clinical Nutrition, Nutraceuticals, Health Policy and Health Systems.
He has attended many short courses including ones at Centre for International Child Health, University College London (2002) and Harvard University Medical School Boston, USA (2020).
Public service career[edit]
He started his public service career in 1999 both as adjunct lecturer at Ebonyi State University, Nigeria and as Medical Officer in Ebonyi State Ministry of Health, Nigeria where he rose to the rank of an Assistant Director. In 2011, he transferred his services to the Federal Ministry of Health, Nigeria with a primary assignment at the National Obstetric Fistula Centre, Abakaliki, Nigeria where he currently serves as Director/HOD, Directorate of Training, Research and Mobilization.[13][14] He had held the position of a temporary adviser to WHO on Knowledge Translation and Health Policy (2017). He was the State Programme Coordinator/Chief Executive, Ebonyi State Grassroots Mobile Clinics (2003 - 2011); Ebonyi State Coordinator Community Outreach of the Mother and Child Care Initiatives (MCCI) (2009 - 2011) and State Coordinator, Special Marshals, Federal Road Safety Corps (2009 - 2016).[15][16] In 2020, he was appointed a Consultant by EngenderHealth, Washington DC, USA (2020 - 2021).
Philanthropy[edit]
Henry Chukwuemeka Uro-Chukwu is the Chief Executive Officer of Essential Health Network For Rural Dwellers Initiatives, EHNRDI, an NGO which is committed to promoting the health of the underserved and in partnership with Solaria Onlus, Italy, supports indigents with severe health condition including cases of open heart surgeries from rural communities in Nigeria. The NGO is expanding to include empowerment and vocational aids to the vulnerable, widows and youths.
Political career[edit]
Uro-Chukwu was appointed the State Chairman of the Ebonyi State Chapter of The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) (2003 - 2008).
He was also elected National Vice President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) (2004 - 2008).

Uro-Chukwu has to his credit forty-four published articles in International Journals[17] and several conference papers in national and international conferences in addition to four textbooks in Nutritional Biochemistry and Public Health namely:
