Herlambang Perdana Wiratraman
Raden Herlambang Perdana Wiratraman (born 8 May 1976) is an Indonesian academician, activist, and writer. He worked as a constitutional law lecturer at Faculty of Law at Airlangga University (UNAIR) and Gadjah Mada University (UGM).

Early life[edit]
Raden Herlambang Perdana Wiratraman was born on 8 May 1976 in Wuluhan, a district in Jember Regency, East Java, as the eldest child of three children of a homemaker and sack factory worker.[1] His grandfather was from Wuluhan and established a school for poor people in the 1950s.[1] After he graduated from high school, he went to Faculty of Law at Airlangga University (UNAIR) majoring in law in 1994, and graduated in 1998.[1][2] Herlambang then earned his master's degree at Faculty of Graduate Studies at Mahidol University majoring in arts in 2005, and graduated in 2006. He completed a Ph.d from Leiden University majoring in law science in 2009, in 2014.[2][1]
During his study at UNAIR, Wiratraman was active in a social activity and worked at Surabaya Legal Aid Institute.[1] In 1997, he ws active in providing legal assistance to farmer communities in various regions in East Java.[1]
Career[edit]
Wiratraman started his career as a constitutional law lecturer at Faculty of Law at Airlangga University (UNAIR).[1] He founded Southeast Asian Human Rights Studies Network (SEAHRN) and became a chairman at several associations, such as Indonesian Human Rights Teachers Union (SEPAHAM; 2014–2017), Indonesian Legal Philosophy Association (AFHI; 2013–2014), and the Center for Human Rights Legal Studies (HRLS) at the Faculty of Law at UNAIR from 2015.[1]
Wiratraman's research focuses on academic freedom.[1] He opened a free legal consultation held at his house in Sidoarjo.[1] Wiratraman became a lecturer at Faculty of Law at Gadjah Mada University at Department of Constitutional Law.[2] In 2020, he became a member of Indonesian Academy of Sciences (AIPI), the first member to come from law. He served as chairman of the Workers Body in Science and Society until 2022.[3]
Awards[edit]
In 2001, with a recommendation from Munir Said Thalib, Wiratraman became the youngest recipient of an Ashoka Award from Arlington, United States.[1] On 11 November 2018, he won Mohammad Yamin Constitutional Award in the category of Best Constitutional Law Scientific Work from 2016 until 2018, awarded at Faculty of Law at Andalas University.[4]
Personal life[edit]
Wiratraman married Movita Hidayati, a physician at lung hospital in Jember, East Java; they had three children.[5][1] He was a close friend of activist Munir Said Thalib.[1]
