Hermione Ruck Keene (born 1978), is a British associate lecturer, educator, professional music teacher and singer. Since 2015, she has been an Associate Lecturer at the University of Exeter.[1]

Early life[edit]

Keene was born to parents Benjamin “Ben” Charles Ruck Keene and Frances Anne Marylee Morton.[2]

Career[edit]

Keene moved to Exeter in 2015 and has since been an Associate Lecturer at the University of Exeter.[1] She has also been a lecturer at the University of Oxford and the University of Reading.[3][4]

Keene is the musical director of Fulham Children's Choir.[5]

In 2017, Keene studied a PhD in Socilogy of Music with Professor of Music Education Lucy Green.[6]

In 2019, Keene at the University of Oxford, checked whether her students had registered to vote and urged the first-year students in one module to research their local MP's position on arts education. She stated that, “It is so important that everyone votes,” and argued that, “The timing of the election potentially means that students could miss out on voting. I want to help ensure they don’t.”[7]

In 2019, Keene was one of thirty academics who signed a letter questioning the “competence and impartiality” of the Department for Education's (DfE) ‘model curriculum’.[8][9]

Personal life[edit]

In 2013, Keene organised a charity music concert in memory of her colleague and friend who died of bowel cancer.[10]
