Heroic Games Launcher is a free and open-source game manager for operating systems like Linux, Windows, macOS and SteamOS. It is developed and maintained by Flávio Fearn and contributors, it is released under the GNU General Public License.[3]
It is built with support for Wine, Proton and CrossOver for games that require compatibility in Unix-based operating systems. In such cases where it is used as a compatibility layer, it offers automatic configurations of the Wine environment for games purchased from GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store and local game files.[4]
History
Heroic started as a project to implement a GUI to Legendary, a free and open-source replacement for the Epic Games Launcher on Linux and macOS using Wine.[1] This graphical interface is build using the software framework Electron.[5]
It has since had over 180 releases. The main development features have included the access to various game store, such as the Epic Games Store, Amazon Prime Store or GOG store[6]
