Hertenstein Cross
The Hertenstein Cross was used as a flag by the federalist movements in Hertenstein, near Zürich Switzerland, from 12–24 September 1946.
The symbol, created by the Basel sculptress Hedwig Frei, was inspired by the Swiss Cross. Initially, it was only used by the Swiss Europa-Union as of 1934. It depicts a mirrored, double-sided E, symbolizing the unification of Europe.
At the founding of the Union of European Federalists (UEF), where 31 organizations of European federalists from 14 countries merged under one parent organization, the Hertenstein Cross was used as the unifying symbol. [1] With the adoption of the Herstein Programme, the creation of an international endeavor towards the European Movement International was accomplished.
