Hey Dude is an Italian footwear company[1] established in 2008[2] by Alessandro and Dario in the city of Florence, Italy.[3] The concept of the company was to create and design shoes that looked like contemporary, modern shoes, whilst offering the comfort of slippers. The company currently has its headquarters in Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles, California, United States.[4]

In 2019, the company launched a College Ambassador Programme focused on raising awareness of student debt.[5]

The company name Hey Dude is trademarked[6] with the company and trademark being owned by Full Fortune Brands Limited[7][8] which has its headquarters in Hong Kong.[9]

Created in 2008 by Alessandro and Dario in Italy, the creators looked to create a modern looking shoe whilst offering the comfort of slippers. In 2009, Hey Dude opened its first brand in the United States and had established a presence in the American footwear market. In June 2010, the company had stockists worldwide and had expanded into Europe, Asia and South America.[10]

In 2011, Hey Dude has sold over one million pairs of shoes worldwide, after just over 30 months of operations beginning.[10]

Famed for their comfort and light weight feel, Hey Dude shoes are recognised as one of the top 10 best selling shoe based purchases on internet buying site Amazon.[11]

As of 2019, the company has sold over 10 million pairs worldwide and is stocked in 5,500 stores worldwide. In 2020, the company planned to expand is base into the Asian footwear market.[12]

In 2017, the company designed and manufactured their first pair of waterproof shoes called Mistral. As of August 2018, 5 million pairs of Hey Dude shoes had been sold worldwide.[10] Additionally, the company made shoes in 2019 made entirely from repurposed wood.[13]

Popularity[edit]

Hey Dude shoes are particularly popular in the United States, particularly with middle school and high school students to wear during the school day. For their comfort, Hey Dude shoes have also established popularity with nurses and school teachers.[14]

Hey Dude shoes accounted for a 25% increase in sales for American retailer Buckle.[15]
