Hippo Labs is a British health technology company based in London that develops software for use in NHS primary care. Its principal product, Hippo Recaller, automates patient recall and proactive care outreach for general practice.[1]
History
Hippo Labs was founded in London in 2021 by Sachin Gupta (chief executive) and Alistair McMaster (chief technology officer).[2] Prior to co-founding the company, Gupta worked in primary care management and McMaster worked in financial technology, having previously been employed at Goldman Sachs.[3]
In 2024, Hippo Labs was selected for the DigitalHealth.London Accelerator programme, an initiative that supports the scaling of digital health companies within London's NHS.[4]
Product
Hippo Recaller is a software platform that integrates with NHS clinical systems to automate the identification of patients requiring review and the subsequent management of recall communications. The platform is listed on the UK Government's G-Cloud Digital Marketplace[5] and connects to NHS clinical systems via approved IM1 pairing routes.[6] Patient communications are delivered through SMS, email, WhatsApp, and the NHS App. The platform also integrates with third-party appointment booking systems.[7]
In 2025, NHS England's published roadmap for the NHS App referenced Hippo Labs as one of several third-party integration partners supporting messaging functionality within the application.[8]
Adoption
Hippo Recaller has been adopted by GP practices and Primary Care Networks across the United Kingdom.[9]
Recognition
In 2025, Hippo Labs received the HealthTech Company of the Year award at the UK Business Tech Awards.[10] The company was also shortlisted for the LaingBuisson Awards (Health Tech Product of the Year) and the HTN Awards (Best Health Tech Solution of the Year) in the same year.[11][12]
The company has exhibited at Best Practice Birmingham 2025 and Best Practice London 2026.[13][14]
Sachin Gupta appeared on the Inside Health Innovation podcast in April 2025 to discuss proactive care in NHS general practice.[15]
