Hitesh Kewalya is the award winning Indian screenplay and dialog writer of the 2017 Bollywood film, Shubh Mangal Saavdhan.[1] starring Aayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar[2][3] . With a background in design and television writing, Kewalya adapted Shubh Mangal Saavdhan from the Tamil feature film, Kalyana Samayal Saadham and gave it the backdrop of a middle class milieu from Delhi. Kewalya has won the Best Dialogue Award at 63rd Filmfare Awards[4] and 19th IIFA Awards[5]

Early life and education[edit]

Hitesh Kewalya was born and brought up in Delhi. After working in Radio, Theater and even as a cartoonist for a magazine, he went on to pursue his Masters in Film and Video Communication from National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad [6] . He then went on to work in the ad film industry before switching to writing promos for various television channels.

Career[edit]

He has written and directed several award winning short films like, Man of the Match, Rhythmatics and Is Modh Pe Kuch Nahin Hota which won the Best Short Fiction award at Mumbai International Film Festival 2006. He switched to television writing full time and wrote iconic TV shows such as Miley Jab Hum Tum, Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? among many others. He also made his debut as a lyricist for the film Aagey Se Right produced by UTV Motion Pictures starring Shreyas Talpade , Mahie Gill and Kay Kay Menon.[7] Apart from being a visiting faculty in Screenwriting at his alma mater NID. At the moment, Kewalya is busy writing his second feature for producer Aanand L. Rai's [8] production house Colour Yellow Productions. His next outing in film further explores the chaos and idiosyncrasies of the Indian middle class.

Personal life[edit]

He is also the Co-founder/Director of an animation design studio, Invisible Rabbit along with his wife Nupur Bhargava.
