Holestepper (Spanish: Pisahueco) is a Peruvian short film written and directed by Sergio Fernández Muñoz, released in 2018.

Plot[edit]

Angel, an enthusiastic high school teacher, discovers a website where his students make fun of him and his disability through some strange videos. Mixing the reality and the digital universe adolescent, Angel will be involved in a world hitherto unknown.

Critical response[edit]

Holestepper had a positive reception from audiences and critics at international film festivals, obtaining 61 awards and nominations. The minutes of the jury of the National Short Film Contest of the Audiovisual, Phonography and New Media Department (DAFO) of the Ministry of Culture of Peru, where it won unanimously, says: “For telling a story of teenage cruelty with effective dark humor and a precise visual language: experimenting with cell phone takes, Instagram filters, Snapchat, GIFs and video-memes of which the protagonist is a victim, who gives an outstanding performance and is redeemed for his revenge.”[1] Critic N.Khouri Ph.D from the Monthly Indie Shorts praised the film (“a breakthrough in the world of cinema”), the director (“no doubt will have a bright future and a large audience, propelling direct into his well-deserved place in the industry”) and the leading actor (“watching the award winning main actor Oswaldo Salas playing the role of Angel, an instructor who has a physical disability is a real pleasure”).[2]
