Horacio Garcia-Rojas (Cerro Azul, Veracruz de Ignacio de la Llave; February 14, 1980) is a Mexican actor, producer and activist.[1]. He is known for his roles in Cry Macho [2], La Carga[3], and Morenita as well as his roles in Netflix series, diablero, Narcos: México, Texas Rising and Mexican TV series S.O.Z. Soldados o Zombies,[4] La Negociadora and La Reina del Sur (season 3)
Early Life[edit]
Garcia-Rojas was raised Cerro Azul (Veracruz), a northern mountainous region of veracruz and is of Huaxteco heritage[5]. He was part of the university theater program while at studying at the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas and after graduating, he moved to Mexico City to continue post-graduate studies in acting at CasAzul[6] and El Diplomado Teatro del Cuerpo.
Career[edit]
Garcia-Rojas acted in his first play at the age of 18 while studying at the Tamaulipas University. Immediately after graduating from Casa Azul in 2008 he landed a role in Julia directed by Érick Zonca alongside Tilda Swinton and that same year he starred in Morenita directed by Alan Jonsson Gavica which won the Audience Award at Festival de Cine Iberoamericano de Huelva, Spain.
In 2015 he played a Chomache War Lord in the History Channel’s Texas Rising alongside Brendan Fraser, Bill Paxton, Ray Liotta and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. In 2016, he starred in, and co-produced La Carga directed once again by Jonsson Gavica, which won the People’s Choice Award at the Festival de Cine Iberoamericano de Huelva. In 2018, he played Tomas Morlet[7] in the hit Netflix series Narcos: Mexico. In that same year, he starred in the Netflix series, Diablero, as the first actor of color to obtain a leading role in a Netflix series in Mexico[8] In 2019, he continued his role as Elvis Infante in the second series of Diablero, and played a SWAT team detective in La Negociadora alongside Barbara Mori. In 2020, he played the antagonist in the Amazon series S.O.Z. Soldados o Zombies and in 2021 he joined the cast of Cry Macho, Directed by Clint Eastwood and hit TV screens as Charlie Vázquez in Telemundo’s popular show, La Reina del Sur (TV series).
Current projects in production include Warner Brother´s animated movie ¨Aztec Batman[9]¨ as the lead voice, the antagonist in the HBO series Coyotl and a main character in the Apple TV series Las Azules[10]
