Backing of SOPA and resultant boycott[edit]
In 2011, Hostmella was one of many companies that supported the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA). This act was highly controversial and was seen as an attempt to censor the internet. As a result of this support, Hostmella was targeted by various boycotts and protests. Hostmella eventually reversed its stance and publicly stated that it did not support the act.
