History[edit]

Nicola Cerrone, the managing director and chief designer of Cerrone was born in Lanciano, a small city on the East Coast of Italy.[2] Nicola started his jewellery workshop in his mother’s garage. And in 1974, Nicola founded from the ground-up his jewellery enterprise the first Cerrone store from the terrace of his house in Leichhardt.[3]

Thereafter, Nicola Cerrone has won numerous National and International jewellery design awards and this includes the prestigious De Beers Diamond International Award in 1998.[4]

Nicola Cerrone is the only Australian among the 25 international winners that won the De Beers Diamond International Award.

The piece that won Cerrone the international award contained 559 round brilliant-cut diamonds called The Elizabethan Ruff. Cerrone is the first jeweller in Australia to be awarded “The Supreme Diamond Award” which paved Nicola Cerrone’s way into the global stage.[5]

In 2006, following his national and international success, Nicola received the Key to the City (il Frentano d’Oro) from his hometown in Lanciano, Italy. In recognition of Nicola Cerrone’s reputation, he was honoured to create three commemorative pieces for His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI during the World Youth Day in 2008.[6]

In 2012, Cerrone joined Nationwide Jewellers, a buying group that showcases premium diamond brands particularly the Tolkowsky diamond jewellery.[7] In which Cerrone is keen to incorporate Gabi Tolkowsky’s diamond cut into their jewellery designs.

In 2019, Cerrone created The Everest trophy which is regarded as the world’s most valuable turf race trophy.[8]

Over the years, Cerrone has adorned royals, celebrities and businesspeople with Cerrone’s bespoke jewellery pieces.
