House of Today
House of Today is a not-for-profit organization based in Beirut. Established in 2012 by Cherine Magrabi-Tayeb, it works in support of Lebanon's design culture.
House of Today has showcased Lebanese design internationally – from Dubai Design Week to Design Miami [1] – and uses its platform to fund scholarships for promising young Lebanese designers.[2]
In 2020, following the Beirut port explosions, House of Today established a Beirut Blast Grant Program to deliver immediate support to the city’s designers.[3]
Design biennales[edit]
Beirut-based biennales are a key platform in House of Today's support of Lebanese designers.
- 2012 – Confessions – The Secret is Out
- 2014 – Naked – Beyond the Social Mask
- 2016 – Jungle Protocol – Tradition & Etiquette [4]
- 2018 - Elevate, the Quest for Heightened Senses [5]
In 2018, it held the fourth edition of its biennale.[6] With the main show “Elevate, the Quest for Heightened Senses” [7] including 21 Lebanese designers and held at the Foster and Partners-designed 3Beirut in the city's central district, the full two-week event also included a programme of over 25 free-to-attend events including talks, tours, and ‘off-biennale’ exhibitions. The next edition of the biennale will take place in December 2020.
