Profile[edit]
Cherine Magrabi-Tayeb joined Magrabi Optical in 2002 and is currently Brand and Communication Director.[1] In 2018 Magrabi-Tayeb commissioned a series of videos for Magrabi Optical featuring social media influencers in support of female empowerment, equality,[2] and Arab identity in the Middle East. The latest, ‘The Arabian Eye’,[3] has been viewed more than 11 million times.
In 2009, Magrabi-Tayeb became a founding patron of Beirut Art Center.
In 2012, Magrabi-Tayeb established Beirut-based non-profit design platform House of Today to give exposure to Lebanese designers, and ran month-long events in Beirut in 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018 under the same heading.[4]
Since 2012, Magrabi-Tayeb has commissioned work from Lebanese designers including Khaled El-Mays, Najla Elzein, Tamara Barrage, Halla Matta, and Nathalie Khayat.
In 2015, under the umbrella of House of Today, Magrabi-Tayeb launched a design student scholarship program. A scholarship is awarded to students ordinarily resident in Lebanon who display an exceptional talent in design and whose development as a designer would most benefit from a graduate or postgraduate study at a respectable university in Lebanon or abroad.
In 2019, Magrabi-Tayeb launched 13BC,[5] her own brand of exclusive, collectible and limited edition minaudières.
In 2020, following the Beirut port explosions, Magrabi-Tayeb was instrumental in pushing House of Today to the forefront of initiatives delivering immediate support to the city's designers.[6]
Magrabi-Tayeb is a regular guest curator at global museums and a judge at design fairs.
