Hump (biology)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

A hump is a proturbance on the back, either from spinal curvature or made up of muscle (American Bison[1]) or fat (such as the camel, zebu). There are two-humped camels, also known as bactrian camels (Camelus bactrianus), single-humped camels (dromedaries) and camelids without humps such as llamas, alpacas, and guanacos.

If the hump is not a normal protuberance on the back or the chest, it is often caused by curvature of the spine or the breastbone (sternum).

People with humps are called hunchbacks. One famous fictional hunchback is Quasimodo from the Victor Hugo novel, The Hunchback of Notre-Dame.
