Chapter I focuses primarily on etiology (cause), listing various pathogenic viruses, bacteria, fungi, and protozoa. Infections specific to a body system are found in other chapters. For example, cellulitis is found in Chapter XII: Diseases of the skin and subcutaneous tissue.
