iGolaware Linux is an Ubuntu derived Linux distribution providing a free operating system for personal computers (Desktop / Laptop / Netbook). It is distributed for free, available for free download from iGolaware's servers. Where it differs from Ubuntu is that, although of vast majority of the software is open source, proprietary drivers, plugins and codecs are included. The base application package within iGolaware Linux also differs from that of Ubuntu. More packages are included in the base installation, to cater for first-time Linux users, so that the distribution no longer fits on a 700 Mbyte CD-ROM.

The main license used is the GNU General Public License (GNU GPL) this declares that users are free to run, copy, distribute, study, change, develop and improve the software.

History[edit]

iGolaware was started in 2008.[citation needed], and igolaware 1.0.9 emerged[when?] as a test beta release. 01/18/2011 iGolaware 2.0 was released on 18 January 2011[citation needed].

Features[edit]

iGolaware Linux focuses on the noobs. As such igolaware Linux includes such applications as XBMC, kdenlive, Firestarter, Klamav, playonlinux, GIMP, Inkscape, Nanny, aMSN to improve the user experience. The GLX dock is also included in the live DVD[citation needed], but this only works for the English language "Out of the Box". iGolaware releases roughly every 6 months, but unlike Ubuntu, this is not a fixed release schedule. iGolaware releases are named after parts of New York City: The first release was code named "Long Island" and the current release[which?] is "Manhattan".
