iSelect (ASX: ISU) is an Australian comparison service. Best known for private health insurance comparison, the company helps customers to compare and purchase across a wide variety of insurance, utilities and personal finance products.
History[edit]
iSelect was co-founded in 2000 by entrepreneur Damien Waller[1] with a focus on comparison of health insurance products. In 2006 ninemsn acquired a 35% shareholding in the company valued at approximately $13 million.[2]
In 2011, iSelect acquired long-running financial comparison website InfoChoice[3] (which it subsequently sold in 2019[4]) and also moved into its current premises in Cheltenham, Victoria.
iSelect was launched on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) in June 2013[5] where it trades as ISU.
In 2014, iSelect purchased energy comparison website Energy Watch[6], which it still owns and operates.
In 2017, iSelect became the majority shareholder in iMoney[7], a South-East Asian financial comparison website.
Services[edit]
iSelect originated as a comparison service for private health insurance only, before launching a variety of other business units across insurance, utilities and personal finance. Broadband internet and travel insurance comparison were both launched in 2011 along with home loans[8], which is now powered by AFG through a joint operation agreement.[9]
In 2016 iSelect began comparing pet insurance through a partnership with Choosi.[10] iSelect launched business insurance comparison in 2019 through a partnership with BizCover.[11]
