I declare Love Upon You (Arabic: أعلنت عليك الحب) is a novel by the Syrian writer Ghada al-Samman. The first edition was published in March 1976.[1]
Content
The novel deals with sentimental, emotional, and poetic themes, where love is the most important topic. Ghada talks about love in an excessive way, and it's the thing that makes the woman fall in love with a man day and night and all the time in a crazy and unconscious way. She also talks about the power of love that got to her heart and other things about the love trap. Ghada speaks in her book about parting where feelings of parting must be brought up when we talk about love. She talked about the cruelty of parting emotions on the lover through lots of poems, as the parting is the last nail in the coffin of the heart as she expressed, in which the heart is carried to its final resting place, making it a bereavement similar to the bereavement of death.[2] The Syrian writer writes about the issue of freedom as she cannot neutralize the feelings of freedom that explode within her every second, as she seeks freedom in love and everything else as she says,[3] and she talks about the state of homelessness that embodies freedom in the writer's movement between coffee shops and beaches, free, only governed by love and longing. She finally reaches the topic of travel, which she talks about directly or indirectly in a lot of her writings, as it is - as some critiques described her - a free bird who loves to travel always, without being bounded or restricted, and without specifying a time or place.
