Iceland: Beyond Sigur Rós is a 2010 British-Icelandic Music Documentary written, produced and directed by Brett Gregory, for his first film of the 'Beyond Trilogy'. Created as a self-funded, non-profit feature documentary exploring and celebrating Iceland's contemporary independent music scene at the beginning of the 21st century. Featuring music by Ólafur Arnalds, Seabear, DJ Musician, Hafdis Huld, Berndsen, Mugison, Lara Runars, Severed Crotch and others.
The documentary features interviews with cultural pundits and music critics like Grapevine Magazine‘s Haukur Magnússon, pop-classical composer and producer Ólafur Arnalds, and Pétur Úlfur Einarsson and Hafsteinn Michael Guomundsson, co-founders of online music distributor Gogoyoko.[1]
The film gained notable attention alongside the completed trilogy after screening at the 13th edition of the Lago Film Festival in Italy.[2]
In interview Brett explained that the idea for the Documentary came after the Eyjafjallajokull eruption, initially setting out to film the aftermath of the volcanic activity, Brett became interested in the Icelandic music scene and it's history.[3]
