Ian J. McCary is an American diplomat who, since September 2022, is the Deputy Special Envoy for the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS at the United States Department of State’s Counterterrorism Bureau. He was the American Chargé d'Affaires to Afghanistan from August 2021 until August 2022[1] when he was replaced by Karen B. Decker.[2]

McCrary is fluent in Arabic.[1]
