Ibrahim Turkieh (1948 – 1994) was a Palestinian dentist and politician who served as head of the Fatah party in Lebanon. He was assassinated in a drive-by shooting shortly after his appointment.
Early life and education
Ibrahim Turkieh was born in 1948 in Yafa (Jaffa) during the Nakba. As an infant, he and his family fled to Beirut, Lebanon. He completed his elementary and secondary education in Beirut before training as a dentist.[1]
Dental career
Turkieh established a private dental clinic in Saida, Lebanon, where he offered free dental treatment to needy residents.[2]
Political career
In the early 1990s, Turkieh joined the Fatah political movement. In 1994, he was promoted to head of Fatah’s Lebanon branch, overseeing political activities and community outreach among Palestinians in southern Lebanon.[3]
Assassination
A few days after his appointment, Turkieh was killed in Saida in a drive-by shooting by two gunmen on a motorcycle—an act widely attributed to the Syrian regime.[4]
Legacy
Turkieh is remembered for his community-oriented dental service and his leadership within Fatah in Lebanon. His assassination highlighted tensions between Palestinian factions and Syrian authorities in the region.
