Icons of Darkness

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Icons of Darkness is the world's largest privately owned collection of sci-fi, fantasy and horror film memorabilia. It includes screen-used props, costumes and special effects makeups from a huge variety of recognizable titles. It officially opened on September 27, 2021, at the Hollywood and Highland complex in Hollywood.[1]

Notable film franchises represented in the exhibit are Jurassic Park, Star Wars, Back to the Future, Harry Potter, Aliens, Terminator, Predator, Lord of the Rings, Planet of the Apes, Batman, Spider-Man A Nightmare on Elm Street Child's Play and The Conjuring as well as a gallery of classic Universal Monsters.[2]

The entire collection is owned by Rich Correll, a former child actor and noted television director who has been amassing the items in the exhibit since the 1970s.[3]

His history with prop collecting began at the age of 10, while working on the television program Leave It to Beaver. Walking around the Universal backlot with his friend and “Leave it to Beaver” star Jerry Mathers, he found a used Boris Karloff makeup appliance from Abbott and Costello Meet Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in the trash of the makeup department and asked if he could have it. The crew agreed to let him have it and it officially became the first piece he ever collected.[4]

The Icons of Darkness exhibit represents roughly 50% of Correll's overall collection. He plans to expand the exhibit into a permanent museum containing his entire collection.[1]
