"Identity" is a song by American rock musician Threatin.[1] It was first released as a stand-alone single on 21 July 2017. [2] It was later released as the sixth track on the debut Threatin album Breaking the World on 25 August 2017 by Superlative Music Recordings (worldwide) and SPV GmbH in Europe and the United Kingdom. [3][4]
Background[edit]
Composition and lyrics[edit]
The song was written to highlight the drums as an instrument.[5] It is most widely known for its signature drum beat in the intro.[6] The drum beat was written first. Then the rest of the music and lyrics were arranged around it. [7] Threatin performs all instruments and vocals for the song. [8] The lyrics discuss Threatin’s perception of himself.[9] He has been quoted as stating; "With a title like "Identity" I felt like there would be an inherent expectation from the audience for me to describe myself, or, how I perceive my own Identity. Lyrically, I thought it would be more compelling to write about all the things I am not rather than expressing what I feel I am."[10]
