"If Need Be" is a song by American rock musician Threatin.[1] It was first released as the fifth track on the debut Threatin album Breaking the World on 25 August 2017 by Superlative Music Recordings (worldwide) and SPV GmbH in Europe and the United Kingdom.[2][3] It was later released as a single on 10 November 2017.[4] The song was accompanied by the release of an official music video on the same date.[5] It was in heavy rotation on active rock radio in the North America and was prominently featured on iHeart Radio following its initial release.[6][7][8]

Recording, composition, and lyrics[edit]
The song is most notable for its acoustic guitar verses which were written in a 1960s singer-songwriter style and transform into an electric guitar-driven rock sound in the choruses.[9] Jered Threatin performs all instruments and vocals for the song.[10][11] He has been quoted as saying the lyrics are "intentionally ambiguous".[12]
It was recorded at Mindframe Studios in Los Angeles, California.[13] The physical CD version of the single also included two bonus tracks; the song “The Place Between” and a previously unreleased acoustic version of "If Need Be" that featured a different arrangement.[14] The release was mastered at Sterling Sound in New York, New York by Grammy-nominated engineer Greg Calbi.[15]
Music video[edit]
The music video for “If Need Be” features a photograph collage that includes hundreds of images of Jered Threatin arranged around the song's lyrics which are transcribed on strips of papyrus paper.[16] The video concept ties to the photograph collage featured in the booklet of the Breaking the World album art.[17] The video was released on 10 November 2017.[18] It was filmed by Glass Castle Films in Hollywood, California.[19]
