"Living Is Dying" is a song by American rock musician Threatin.[1] It was first released worldwide as a single on 16 June 2017.[2] It was later featured as the second track on the debut Threatin album “Breaking the World” released on 25 August 2017 by Superlative Music Recordings and SPV GmbH in Europe and the United Kingdom.[3]
Background[edit]
Composition and lyrics[edit]
The song features dynamic shifts from soft verses to louder choruses and a prominent snare drum pattern in the pre-chorus section.[4] Threatin performs all instruments and vocals on the song.[1] He has described the lyrics from the song as, “the feeling you experience when you need to change directions in life.”[5] The verse lines “I lie awake at night, just buried in my mind” were written as the lyrics suggest; at night while he was reflecting on life.[4] In a literal sense, the lines are about the experience of the writing process itself.[5]
Music video[edit]
The music video for "Living Is Dying" premiered worldwide on 7 August 2017.[6][7] It was filmed in Hollywood, California by Glass Castle Films with a budget of $150,000.[8][9] The video has a dark fantasy style and depicts the passing of time in various ways using an hourglass and a clock spinning backwards.[10] It also features Threatin performing on multiple instruments and singing from inside picture frames and a mirror.[7]
