Igloo Software is a Canadian technology company which provides enterprise collaboration software, or an Enterprise Social Network (ESN), for organizations which goes by the same name, or just Igloo.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7]

History[edit]

Headquartered in Kitchener, Ontario, the technology behind Igloo was developed in 2004 at the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) as the first free online innovation network.[8]

The original Igloo Software platform was supported in part by the Government of Ontario along with organizations like OpenText, the University of Waterloo, and the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation.[9] In accordance to CIGI’s agreement with the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation, Igloo was commercialized in 2008 with the establishment of a stand-alone private company, Igloo Software Incorporated.[10]

In 2018, the company was named to Deloitte’s Technology Fast 500.[11] In January 2018, Igloo raised $47 million from Frontier Capital.[12][13]

Services[edit]

Igloo is a SaaS intranet product that provides content to employees in an engaging and collaborative manner similar to the types of news and social media platforms we have become accustomed to on the Web.[14][15][16] Many businesses find they are increasing their use of SaaS apps for different used cases, or different internal audiences. Igloo attempts to bridge that gap so rather than having technical folks create a wiki on confluence and HR collaborating in Google Drive, they can all collaborate on a central knowledge repository on Igloo.
