Inferno is a four-part comic book storyline which debuted in September 2021, being published by Marvel Comics. Written by Jonathan Hickman, the limited series is a follow up to House of X/Powers of X.

Publication History[edit]

Inferno was hinted in the last pages of X-Men (vol. 5) #20. It was officially announced as a four-issue limited series with rotating artist of Valerio Schiti, R.B. Silva and Stefano Casselli. It is advertised as Jonathan Hickman's payoff to his X-Men saga that will feature more revelations from the lives of Moira MacTaggert, Nimrod's revenge and vicious power plays.[1]

Plot[edit]

Lead-up[edit]

One of the revealed Sinister Secrets states that: "When you square that circle, what took a long time to build can come crumbling down rather quickly."[2]

Years ago, Destiny told Mystique about Krakoa: “There will be an island—not the first, but the last…” [3]

Having failed her side mission in the Orchis assault[3] and the follow up mission to destroy Nimrod,[4] Mystique was denied her wish to resurrect Destiny. She remembers one of Destiny's prophetic words that she would be denied the one thing she wanted. Destiny told her to bring her back at all cost and if she is unable to, then she must burn the island to the ground.
