Infinito is the annual sports festival of Indian Institute of Technology Patna. The word ‘Infinito’ is derived from the Latin word ‘Infinitus’, and stands to symbolize the infinite potential of the human body. Having started in 2016, it is a three-day long event and is held every year generally towards the end of December.[1]

The festival comprises tournaments for different sports like cricket, football, badminton, volleyball, track & field and even the likes of chess and esports in the recent editions. In addition to competitions, the festival provides a platform to various athletes and professionals to deliver guest lectures on important topics ranging from fitness to women empowerment in sport.[2]

Eminent sports personalities like Amit Panghal and Bhavna Bhave Tokekar have also been a part of Infinito in the past editions.

Description[edit]

Infinito is one of the largest college sports events in Bihar, India. The first edition of Infinito was conducted in 2016. It is one of the three major events organised by IIT Patna, alongside Celesta and Anwesha.

Infinito draws participation from colleges all over India, including IITs, IIITs and NITs. The three-day festival comprises various sporting tournaments, fitness sessions, guest lectures and recently, esport tournaments.

Offline edition[edit]

The first three editions of Infinito, held in the years 2016, 2018 and 2019 were hosted at the IIT Patna campus. Various sports tournaments were organised, witnessing participation from colleges all across Bihar.[3][4]

Some of the events that were organized:

Team Events: Cricket, basketball, volleyball, football.

Individual Events: Chess, table tennis, field events like discus throw, javelin throw, shot put, long jump, and track running events like 100m, 200m, 300m, 400m, 800m, 4 × 100 m, 4 × 400 m relay.

Online edition[edit]

The fourth edition of Infinito in 2020 was held online amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Under the theme, The Virtual Arcade, the fest focused majorly on e-sport events and virtual events like: Queen's Gambit (chess tournament), Meme-o-Philia (meme contest), Clash of Tourna (Clash of Clans), Knockout (sports quiz), Kill Switch (Call of Duty, Free Fire, CS GO) and various fitness challenges.

In October 2021, Infinito released a pre-fest event by the name Inizio, which marked the beginning of the fifth edition. The event consisted of a two-day fitness workshop conducted by Ms. Mitushi Ajmera for the students of IIT Patna. Apart from the workshop, a tournament of Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) was held, with students from all over the country participating in the same.

Over the course of five editions, several notable sports personalities have been associated with Infinito:

  • Amit Panghal - Professional Boxer, 2018 Asian Games Gold medallist, 2019 World Championship Silver medallist.
  • Bhavna Bhave Tokekar - Indian Powerlifter, recipient of four gold medals in the Open Asia Championship, 2019
  • Madhu Priya Jha -  Swabhiman Khel Ratan recipient, Bihar's first female professional bodybuilder and distinguished sport and exercise nutritionist
  • Mitushi Ajmera - India's first Pilardio instructor, wellness coach
