Information TV is a television organisation which broadcasts three free-to-air channels on Sky and Freesat in the United Kingdom.
History[edit]
Information TV came into existence in April 2003, and received its ITC licence in November 2003. It began broadcasting at 10am on Monday, 19 January 2004 on Sky EPG channel 692. On 7 June 2004 the channel moved EPG to channel 588, in the News and Documentaries section of Sky. On 8 October 2004 the channel launched a broadband simulcast via the company website. On 26 May 2005 the channel moved to channel 277. On 28 February 2006 the channel moved to channel 181. Its second channel, Information TV 2 later launched on channel 182. On 18 June 2007, Information TV and Information TV 2 moved to channel 167 and channel 168. On 1 September 2008, Information TV and Information TV 2 moved to channel 166 and channel 167.
Information TV 1 started broadcasting on from Friday 8 August on Freesat channel 406. It moved to channel 402 on 24 March 2009 and 401 on 19 September 2012.
On 30 September 2010, Information TV +1 launched on 189 in the Sky EPG. The EPG slot was purchased from the Open Access Group.
On 1 November 2011, Information TV moved from Sky channel 166 to 231, replacing the PBS UK owned channel Rosa and allowing PBS UK to launch on channel 166.
On 2 April 2012, Information TV +1 closed, with Men&Movies purchasing its Sky EPG slot to move further up the EPG. On 20 March 2014, Information TV +1 relaunched on channel 295 in the Sky EPG.
Showcase TV[edit]
Although it appears with the name "Showcase TV" on the Information TV official website,[1] the channel launched as "Showcase" on the Sky platform on channel 216 in the UK on 8 February 2010, perhaps to avoid confusion with defunct CSC Media Group channel Showcase TV.[2]
As of 21 April 2010 Showcase was moved to Sky channel 201 and Showcase 2 was launched on channel 216 replacing the Unexplained Channel. On 5 July 2010, Showcase was launched on Freesat channel 403,[2] moving to channel 400 on 19 September 2012.
On 1 September 2010 Showcase 2 was moved to Sky channel 203, with channel 216 becoming a 1 hour time shift channel for Showcase (Showcase +1).
Showcase was formerly Information TV 2 on Sky channel 167. On the 1 October 2009, Information TV 2 ceased broadcasting after Quest acquired the EPG slot on Sky. On 23 November 2010, WTF acquired the Sky EPG slot for Showcase +1. On 1 December 2011, Showcase +1 relaunched on Sky channel 235 but closed again on 6 June 2012. Showcase +1 relaunched again on 9 May 2013 on Sky channel 193 but closed once again on 27 February 2014.
Showcase 2[edit]
Launched on the Sky platform channel 216 in the UK on 21 April 2010. Replacing the Unexplained Channel, some of the public domain films previously shown on the Unexplained Channel are shown on Showcase and Showcase 2.
On 19 March 2013, Showcase 2 launched on Freesat.[3]
