Ingressive For Good (I4G) is an edtech non-profit organisation dedicated to creating and increasing the earning power of African youth through tech training, jobs, and resources. It was founded in 2020 by Maya Horgan Famodu, Sean Burrowes,[1] and Blessing Abeng.[2][3]

The nonprofit tackles unemployment in Africa by equipping young people with tech skills and resources to help them find opportunities, grow their earning power and also contribute to the socio-economic development of the continent[4][5]. The foundation aims to achieve this through three pillars: Micro-scholarships, Technical training and Talent placements[6].

The Mission

Ingressive For Good (I4G) aims to empower one million African youths[7], provide 5000 jobs and award $1m in scholarships by 2025 across the continent. To achieve this, the foundation works with training organisations to develop learning modules that support the growth of its community members.

History

While building its successful Venture Capital firm Ingressive Capital, the founders recognised the inequities in the tech ecosystem and how bridging those inequities could catalyse growth opportunities for the African continent. So, on July 1st, 2020, Ingressive For Good (I4G) was launched as a not-for-profit organisation[8].

To test the viability of the I4G program, the organisation launched a pilot phase which ran between July 1, 2020 – October 1, 2020. During this pilot phase, I4G partnered with Coursera, Facebook, Datacamp, HNG, Enye, SemiColon, Tekedia, CareerBuddy, FindWorka, Live Your Dreams, Covenant University, Babcock University, StudentBuild, Bankole Williams, and so many amazing organizations to reach the Africans in need and provide trainings, scholarships, job placements.

Major Programs and Initiatives

Micro-Scholarships

During the COVID19 pandemic Lockdown, I4G partnered with Coursera[9], one of the world’s leading online learning platform[10] to offer scholarships to African youths in tech.[11] The nonprofit also partnered with data online learning platform, DataCamp[12] to offer scholarships to Africans to learn data skills.[13][14][15]

Technical Training

A year after its launch, Ingressive For Good announced that it had trained 60,000 young Africans[16]. Focused on providing tech training for one million African youth, the organisation partnered with DataCamp[17], an interactive learning platform for data science and analytics, to close data skill gaps and provide access to high-quality data training for thousands of Africans for free.

In November 2020, Ingressive For Good also announced a partnership with Facebook on a digital skills training program to help African youth leverage digital tools to move their brands and career forward[18].

Talent Placement

About 100 young Africans have been placed in tech jobs across the continent.

Ingressive For Good Student Ambassadors

In July 2021, Ingressive for Good launched the Student Ambassadors program[19], called the I4G circle[20] - an exclusive community of young, smart, confident and influential students in universities across Africa passionate about tech and leveraging it to solve problems.

Spread across Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, South Africa, Rwanda and Congo, these ambassadors are largely responsible for leading I4G Circles in their school and building the tech communities on their campuses.
