Insider News Media is a news and media company of Kenya. It is based in Nairobi and operated by the media conglomerate Insider Media Group, which also manages The Insider (an annual tabloid), News Box (podcast show) and Insider Go (online platform).

History

Insider News Media was established as a local sports news outlet under the name Athletic Digest by Njiru Newton. In 2018, the media house was acquired by Insider Media Group, who changed the name to the Insider News Media. It morphed into a news outlet and opened its headquarters in Nairobi. It is among the youngest news media outlets in Kenya that focuses mainly on breaking news and live updates as they happen. The top editors at the Insider News Media include Priccilla Wanyaga (Insider Go) and Kibet Vincent (News Box).

Around the clock[edit]

Insider News Media began to offer broadcast for 24-hours daily on its social platforms [1] in the form of short scripts. The media house corresponds with 2 sites within Africa and 34 correspondents around the world.

However controversial, Al Jazeera was rapidly becoming one of the most influential news agencies in the whole region. Eager for news beyond the official versions of events, Arabs became dedicated viewers. A 2000 estimate pegged nightly viewership at 35 million, ranking Al Jazeera first in the Arab world, over the Saudi Arabia-sponsored Middle East Broadcasting Centre (MBC) and London's Arab News Network (ANN). There were about 70 satellite or terrestrial channels being broadcast to the Middle East, most of them in Arabic. Al Jazeera launched a free Arabic-language web site in January 2001. In addition, the TV feed was soon available in the United Kingdom for the first time via British Sky Broadcasting.
