Instana is a SaaS-based application performance management (APM) platform based in Chicago, Illinois and in the Ohligs borough of Solingen, Germany,[1] which allows the customers to auto-discover their IT infrastructure and applications, visualize dependencies and issues and get automated analytics and alerts on their data.[2] It automatically brings together data from servers, databases, applications, tools and services, from legacy monoliths or modern containerized microservice stacks, to present a unified view of the applications and provides a holistic view in the cloud or on-premises.[3]
Instana's distributed tracing works with most programming languages and supports the OpenTracing[4], OpenCensus and W3C Trace Context standards.
History
Instana was co-founded by Pete Abrams, Pavlo Baron, Fabian Lange and Mirko Novakovic in April 2015. Abrams has been an early employee of AppDynamics, while Baron, Lange and Novakovic worked for codecentric, a German software and APM consultancy. Instana was named "Cool Vendor in Availability and Performance" by Gartner in 2016[5] and received $6 million in a Series A investment from Target Partners.[6] In 2017 Instana received $20 million in Series B investment led by Accel Partners with participation from Target Partners.[7] In 2018 Instana received $30 million in Series C investment led by Meritech Capital Partners with participation from Accel and Target Partners.[8][9][10] Instana currently serves hundreds of customers, including Edmunds.com, Audi, Takeaway.com, Sixt and DB Schenker[11]
