Institute for China-America Studies

The Institute for China-America Studies (ICAS) is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental organization in Washington, D.C. focused on tracking and analyzing events in China–United States relations. According to their vision, ICAS "focuses on the evolving dynamics in the U.S.-China relationship to promote greater collaboration and mutual understanding through sincere exchanges of fresh ideas, objective policy-oriented research, and fair assessments of this critical bilateral relationship." Their ultimate goal is to "provide a window into the worldviews of both the United States and China, and thereby serve as a vehicle to promote greater understanding between these two countries and societies."

Types of Research[edit]

According to their FAQ Page, ICAS primarily produces two kinds of research products:

  • Written research projects of various size
    • The content of ICAS written research products covers both big, topical issues (Policy Reports; Issue Briefs; Books and Journals) and timely, hot button issues (Issue Briefs; Bulletins; Commentaries and Analyses).
  • Interactive ArcGIS-based Maritime Issue Trackers
    • ICAS has currently produced interactive Maritime Issue Trackers for four regions (East China Sea, South China Sea, the Arctic, and the Antarctic) that focus on issues related to security, the environment, and territorial claims, among others.

Other Activity[edit]

ICAS also conducts live discussion events among topic experts, often with partner institutions, as well as expert interview series, to encourage open dialogue and discussion across borders.
