International Association of Outsourcing Professionals

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The International Association of Outsourcing Professionals[1][2] (IAOP) is a professional[3] "trade"[4] organization "that caters to outsourcing professionals." Their activities, aside from forums, trade shows and awards, also include running workshops and offering certification programs.[5]

Five items about IAOP were covered during the first half of 2019 by The New York Times.[6]

History[edit]

IAOP was founded in 2005.[7][4] Beyond its evaluations of companies, it also does industry analysis.[8][4]

IAOP awards programs[edit]

IAOP gives awards such as Global Outsourcing 100,[2] and, via its Hall of Fame,[9] recognition for accomplishments by those with major contributions to the field of outsourcing.[10]

These awards, recognitions and listings are recognized by professional resource services such as the Thomas Register.[11] CNBC[12] and Barron's [13] also cover IAOP's awards. One company's eleventh award was noted by The New York Times.[14]

Training and Certification[edit]

As part of its mission, IAOP organizes and helps run[15] training, with the goal of certifying those who master the field.[5][7] Titles include Certified Outsourcing Professional (COP)[7] and Associate Certified Outsourcing Professional (aCOP).[16]

Version 10 of a textbook on this subject was published in 2014;[3] version 9 was published 2010.[17]

Hall of Fame[edit]

IAOP's Hall of Fame awards have received coverage by The New York Times.[18]

Credentials listed on The White House appointment list for CIO of the U. S. Department of Defense included "inducted into .. the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals Hall of Fame." [19]

Controversy[edit]

Ohio's Congresswoman Fudge clearly expressed concern that "one of the 'World’s Best Outsourcing Advisors'" (and "a member of the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals (IAOP)") was being considered by her home state's Department of Transportation for privatizing the Ohio Turnpike.[20] A colleague added the description "a malicious attack meant to break the backs of organized labor in Ohio."

Their sentiments were seconded by three University of Oxford professors whose 2017-released study was posted on the U. S. National Center for Biotechnology Information's website.[21]

Caveat[edit]

Peter Drucker, 2009 IAOP Outsourcing Hall of Fame inductee,[22] cautioned that "there is a price ... if large numbers of people cease to be employees of the organization for which they actually work... there are bound to be substantial social repercussions."[22][23][24]

Outsourcing Institute[edit]

The Outsourcing Institute is older[25] but more limited in scope.[26]
