The International Boxing Research Organization (IBRO) is an organization formed by a group of boxing historians in 1982 with the primary goal of improving boxing's history through intensive historical research by boxing historians worldwide, and providing boxing with accurate historical records.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9] The organization was initially co-founded by boxing historians Herb Goldman and John Grasso and has had five executive directors since its inception in 1982 (John Grasso, Tim Leone, Ralph Citro, Dan Cuoco, and Don Cogswell). The creation of the International Boxing Research Organization was suggested by boxing expert and historian Herbert Randolph Sugar who proposed that boxing historians worldwide pool their research efforts.[10] The IBRO currently has 130 members, comprising boxing historians and journalists worldwide.[11]
