Ione Taylor
Ione Taylor was born on March 6, 1954 and was raised and educated in North Carolina. She held her first jobs in geoscience in New Orleans, Louisiana, Tulsa, Oklahoma and Houston, Texas. She lived in Reston, Virginia prior to moving to her residence Ontario, Canada. Upon the completion of her bachelor's degree in Chemistry at Guilford College, she continued her education by obtaining a master's degree in Geology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Additionally, Taylor attended the University of Carolina at Chapel Hill and earned her Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Geology.[1] With her extensive education, Ione Taylor then pursued a career in the Geoscience community. Ione began her career in geology at AmocoProduction Company and eventually transitioned to working for the US Government at the US Geological Survey US Dept. of the Interior. Taylor then held the position of executive director for the Earth and Energy Resources Leadership professional masters program at Queen's University.[2]
Awards and Distinctions[edit]
Throughout Taylor's life, she has proven to be an accomplished woman, with many awards and distinctions. As one of her accomplishments, Taylor was able to serve as a Co-chair on the US National Training and Development Human Capital team, a group created for the development of the Senior Executive Service Candidate Development Program for the US Department of the Interior[2]. This program for leadership development takes place over an 18-month period which results in Certification of Federal Senior Executives. By completing this, she has delivered web-based leadership and made decisions at the US National level for land and natural resources for Federal Senior Executives[2].[3]
She is also a Certified Administrator for Leadership Assessment Instruments, obtained through the Center for Creative Leadership. Upon the completion of this course, Ione has delivered web-based leadership and been a part of decisions made at the US National level in regards to land and resources.[3]
Furthermore, Taylor was selected to receive an award from the “Heritage of the Petroleum Geologist” in 2017 selected by the AAPG in celebration of their 100 years anniversary. This award goes to individuals in the oil and gas industry who are “known for substantial industry contributions and for taking a proactive role in passing on knowledge and experience to future generations”. Taylor was only one of 8 women nominated and selected to receive this honour.[4]
