Ionel Lehari is an Estonian design strategist and lecturer.[1] He is the creative director and partner at conceptual design agency Identity, a member of the Creative Union (CU), one of the biggest group of communications companies in Estonia. In addition, Ionel Lehari is a Visiting Associate Professor, Head of Media Graphics at the Estonian Academy of Arts (EAA)[2] and a guest lecturer in Design & Technology Futures[3], a joint Masters program (MSc) in Tallinn University of Technology TalTech[4] and EAA. Since 2019, Ionel Lehari has been a member of the expert board of the Estonian Design Center.

Personal[edit]

Ionel Lehari was born on 18 May 1967 in St. Petersburg, Russia (then Leningrad, USSR). He studied at the Tallinn Pelgulinna Art Gymnasium from 1974 to 1985 and then entered the Estonian Academy of Arts in 1985, graduating in 1994 with a Master's degree (MA). from 1995-2001 he worked as an art director at the advertising agency Kontuur Leo Burnett, and from 2003 to the present he is creative director of Identity. Ionel Lehari has been married to jewelry designer Krista Lehari since 1988, with whom he has three children: Riste Lehari (born 1989), Miriam Lehari (born 1997) and Romet Salvador Lehari (born 2007).

Lehari's public sector brand creation and visual identity projects have included Estonian Television (2003)[5], Stenbock House, residence of the Government of Republic of Estonia (2006), Estonian Pavilion for Shanghai World EXPO (2010)[6], Tallinn 2011 as the European Capital of Culture (2011), Port of Tallinn (2011)[7], Estonian Football Association (2014)[8], Estonian History Museum (2016), Republic of Estonia 100[9] and Estonian Presidency of the European Union 2017 (2017)[10], Museum of Freedom and Occupation Vabamu (2018), Marine Spatial Planning Global (2019)[11], EU CyberNet (2019).

Lehari's private sector brand creation and visual identity projects have included Arigato (fitness 2006), Bauhof (retail, 2007), Solaris (retail, 2008), Thermory (building materials, 2009), Extery (furniture 2010), Capital Mill (real estate 2011), Arcwood (timber industry, 2012), Küllus (food 2014), Inbank (finance, 2015), Unimed (medical, 2016), Hestia Hotel Group (accommodation 2017), Operail (logistics 2018).

He has won various awards for his work, including the Bronze European Design Award 2019[12], Estonia 100, Bronze White Square Festival, Minsk 2018, Estonia 100[13], Bronze Ad Black Sea, Batumi 2017, Estonia 100[14], Gold Red Apple, Moscow 2017, Estonia 100[15], Gold KIAF, Kiev 2014, Café Maiasmokk[16], Silver White Square Festival, Minsk 2014, Café Maiasmokk, Gold POPOK, Yerevan 2014, Café Maiasmokk, Silver Hammer Riga 2010, Sangar[17], Silver Golden Hammer Riga 2008, Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Estonia, Silver Golden Hammer Riga 2008[18], Agency of the Year – Creative Case Golden Hammer Riga 2008, Environmental Information Centre, Silver As the creative director of the Identity team, Ionel Lehar has been awarded 21 times at national creative festivals (Kuldmuna ja ADC*Estonia) and has twice been the winner of the Annual Prize of ESL (Estonian Association of Interior Architects)[19] as a creative director of the Ruumilabor and Identity joint team.
