Isaiah Rivera[edit]

Isaiah Rivera is a 6’1” American professional slam dunker. He makes a living traveling the world performing in shows and entering dunk competitions across the globe. [1] [2] He gained viral online status with his 360-degree behind-the-back through-the-legs dunk. [1]

Born in Puerto Rico, Isaiah moved to Utah with his family so that his two younger siblings, Alondra and Januel Gomez, could receive specialized treatments for a rare genetic disease, spinal muscular atrophy. Their journey was chronicled by Adam Townsend and Shae Sexton in Not Surviving But Living (A Documentary).[3]

Education[edit]

Attended Jordan High School in Sandy, Utah; where he failed to make the Beetdiggers basketball team three years in a row.[1] Isaiah earned a degree from Central Florida in 2019.[1]

Dunk Career[edit]

Isaiah was 16 years old when he dunked (on a regulation 10’ rim) for the first time.[1][2]

In 2019, he won the 15th edition of the famed Quai54 slam dunk contest in Paris, France (judged by NBA stars Russell Westbrook, Blake Griffin, Carmelo Anthony, Kemba Walker and WNBA star Maya Moore along with filmmaker Spike Lee).[4]

Isaiah competed in several FIBA 3x3 World Tour events in 2019: coming first in Montreal, first in the Utsunomiya Final and second in Mexico City.[5][6]

At 19 years old, Isaiah was the youngest dunker at the Dunk King Season 2 competition.[7] He competed as one of the 10 best professional dunkers in Dunk League Season 3, where he won the $5,000 Episode 1 “90-Second Freestyle” challenge.[8]

Isaiah’s dunking career journey has been chronicled by Whistle Sports in an episode of Dunk Diaries[9], and Dunk League Season 2, Episode 22.[10]
