Israel Gelfer (Hebrew: ישראל גלפר‎; born 15 August 1945) is an Israeli chess FIDE master (FM), International Arbiter (IA, 1994), FIDE Senior Trainer (ST, 2004) and International Organizer (IO, 2012).

Biography

In 1962, Israel Gelfer won the Israeli Junior Chess Championship. He was a multiple participant of the Israeli Chess Championship.

  • In 1983, at reserve board in the 8th European Team Chess Championship preliminaries (+0, =1, -1).

Israel Gelfer played for Israel in the World Student Team Chess Championships:[3]

  • In 1966, at second reserve board in the 13th World Student Team Chess Championship in Örebro (+2, =1, -2),
  • In 1968, at third board in the 15th World Student Team Chess Championship in Ybbs (+6, =2, -2),
  • In 1969, at first board in the 16th World Student Team Chess Championship in Dresden (+4, =4, -4),

Israel Gelfer was the author of the book: Positional Chess Handbook: 495 Instructive Positions from Grandmaster Games (Dover Publications 2001). He is known as a FIDE chess functionary. Israel Gelfer was a member of the FIDE Presidential Board as Chairman of FIDE's Anti-cheating Committee.
