Ivan Karpenko-Kary[lower-alpha 1] (born Ivan Karpovych Tobilevych[lower-alpha 2] (1845–1907) was a Ukrainian writer, actor, playwright and part of Theatre of Coryphaei.[1]. Karpenko-Kary remains well-remembered in the 21st century. His works are studied in middle school[2], several objects are named in his honour, including Kyiv National I. K. Karpenko-Kary Theatre, Cinema and Television University.
Private life[edit]
1870 Karpenko-Kary married Nadiya Tarkovska , an aunt of the Yelisavetgrad poet and journalist Arseny Tarkovsky and a second cousin of Andrei Tarkovsky. As a dowry he received the family farm of the Tarkovskys. Nadiya Tarkovska gave Karpenko-Kary seven children[3]
