Iveco Group N.V. (EXM: IVG) is a multinational automotive manufacturing company specialising in commercial vehicles, powertrain and related financial services. The registered office is in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and its headquarters are in Turin, Italy. The company is listed on the Euronext Milan stock exchange. Suzanne Heywood is chair and Olof Persson is CEO.[1][2]

History

Background

Iveco (originally stylised in all caps), an acronym of its original name, the Industrial Vehicles Corporation, was formed in 1975 from the merger of five truck brands: Fiat Veicoli Industriali, OM and Lancia Veicoli Speciali from Italy, Unic from France and Magirus Deutz from Germany.[3][4] In 2003, Iveco entirely bought out Irisbus, originally a joint venture with Renault, and renamed it Iveco Bus.[5] Iveco was orignally part of Fiat S.p.A. until 2011, when Fiat spun off Iveco, CNH Global and FPT Industrial into a separate company called Fiat Industrial.[6][7][8] On 29 September 2013, CNH Global and Fiat Industrial were merged into CNH Industrial N.V., a company registered in the Netherlands with tax residence in the UK.[9][10][11][12][13]

In August 2019, it was reported that CNH was considering spinning off the Iveco truck manufacturer,[14] which was announced in September.[15] CNH CEO Hubertus Mühlhäuser said that the new spin-off company, which also includes the Iveco Bus and Heuliez brands as well as the FPT Industrial powertrain business, would be open to further deals following the demerger.[16] It was meant to be completed in 2021, but was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic. In April 2021, it was reported that CNH's defence business would also be divested as part of the spin-off, after talks to sell CNH's commercial vehicle assets to Chinese state-owned automaker FAW fell through.[17] On 11 November 2021, the newly formed Iveco Group N.V. published the prospectus for its proposed split from CNH Industrial.[18][19] On 23 December 2021, CNH's shareholders approved the split.[20][21]

Independence: 2022–2025

Iveco Group was officially established as an independent company on 1 January 2022, following its spin-off from CNH Industrial.[22] The separation was finalised on 31 December 2021, and Iveco Group's initial public offering (IPO) took place on 3 January 2022, with Exor holding a 27% stake.[23][24][25]

Since 1 July 2024, Olof Persson has served as chief executive officer of Iveco Group, taking over from Gerrit Marx, who served as CEO beginning in 2022.[26][27]

On 3 January 2025, the ownership of Magirus was transferred to Mutares.[28]

Sale to Tata, divesture of defence business: 2025–present

On 10 July 2025, it was reported that Leonardo was in talks to buy the group's defence business, including the IDV and Astra brands, for €1.6 billion.[29] On 18 July, it was being reported that Indian commercial vehicle maker Tata Motors was in talks to acquire Iveco Group; the defence business would not be included.[30][31] Both deals were announced on 30 July.[32][33][34][35][36][37][38] Leonardo completed its acquisition of the defence business on 18 March 2026.[39][40][41][42]

Brands

Iveco Group presides five brands:[43]

  • Iveco designs, manufactures and commercialises heavy, medium and light duty commercial vehicles.
  • FPT Industrial specialises in powertrain technologies for both on-and off-road applications.
  • Iveco Bus designs and manufactures urban, intercity and tourism buses.[44]
  • Heuliez focuses on passenger transport buses.[45]
  • Iveco Capital is the financial services brand of the group.[46]

The following brands were part of Iveco Group's defence business until 18 March 2026, when it was sold to Leonardo:

  • IDV provides specialised defence and civil protection equipment.
  • Astra produces large-scale, heavy-duty quarry and construction vehicles.

Projects and partnerships

Hyundai

In March 2022, Iveco Group signed a memorandum of understanding with Hyundai to collaborate on an electric light commercial vehicle for the European market.[48][49][50] The same year Iveco Group and Hyundai Motor Company presented the first fuel cell large van at IAA in Hanover, followed by a new hydrogen city bus at Busworld in Brussels in 2023.[51][52] In February 2024, it was announced that Hyundai and Iveco were launching a new Iveco-branded electric van in Europe, using Hyundai's eLCV platform.[53][54][55] In September, the van, produced by Hyundai and distributed by Iveco, was announced as the Iveco eMoovy, based on the Hyundai ST1.[56][57]

Nikola Iveco Europe

In June 2023, Iveco Group acquired full ownership of Nikola Iveco Europe, a joint venture focused on electric and fuel cell heavy-duty trucks, now operating as EVCO Gmbh. Nikola and Iveco first began the joint venture in 2019.[58][59]

Metallica

In November 2023, Iveco Group announced its partnership with Metallica for the European leg of their M72 World Tour.[60][61][62][63]

Foton

In June 2024, the Iveco brand and Foton, a commercial vehicle brand part of BAIC Group, signed a memorandum of understanding to explore collaboration on electric vehicles and components, and business opportunities in Europe and South America.[64][65][66][67]

Ford

In March 2025, Iveco Group, through its namesake truck brand, and Ford Trucks, a truck brand owned by Ford Otosan, signed a joint-venture agreement to jointly develop a new heavy duty truck cabin, to be assembled in their own facilities.[68]

Stellantis

In March 2025, Iveco Group and Stellantis reached an agreement for Stellantis to supply the Iveco brand with two battery electric vans, rebadged from the Stellantis Pro One portfolio.[69][70][71][72] In June, they were unveiled as the Iveco eJolly and Iveco eSuperJolly.[73][74][75][76]
