J. D. Zeik is an American screenwriter and educator. He is best known for writing the original screenplay for the 1998 action thriller film Ronin and for his work on the Witchblade television franchise.

Career

Zeik gained industry prominence in the late 1990s when his original script for Ronin was produced, starring Robert De Niro and directed by John Frankenheimer. Although the screenplay underwent revisions by David Mamet (who was credited under a pseudonym), Zeik retained story and co-writing credit. The film is often cited for its realistic car chases and technical dialogue.

In 2000, Zeik wrote the television film Witchblade, based on the Top Cow comic book series. The success of the film led to a Witchblade television series on TNT, for which Zeik served as a writer and consultant.

Zeik's later work includes the 2024 action film The Painter, starring Charlie Weber and Jon Voight. In 2026, he wrote the screenplay for The Internship, an action thriller produced by Steven Paul and starring Lizzy Greene.

Academic career

In addition to his professional screenwriting, Zeik is a member of the faculty at Purchase College (State University of New York), where he teaches screenwriting in the Board of Study for Cinema Studies.
