Phillip Andrew Saal (October 13, 1958 – June 24, 2019) was a American actor, director, screenwriter and artist. Phillip Saal was born on October 13, 1958 in Chicago to parents Andrew (1922–1998) and Mary Saal (1924–2017). He was the third of five children. He started his acting career at the age of 16, when he guest starred in an episode of the sitcom All in the Family. In 1983, his acting career took off, when he starred in the movie Flashdance. He also appeared in Stand by Me, the Silence of the Lambs and Batman Forever and also appeared in two episodes of the sitcom ALF. Saal would also do some voice acting as well, guest starring in the Simpsons and SpongeBob SquarePants. He also directed various short films between 1979 and 1982. He was married to Nancy Cartwright from 2005 until 2010. He was offered to do some voicing for the Amazing World of Gumball, but he turned down the offer. Saal was diagnosed with liver cancer in 2016. He died on June 24, 2019 in Los Angeles, after battling the cancer for 3 years. He was 60 years old.
