Christopher Riley is an American screenwriter, author, and educator, best known for his reference book The Hollywood Standard, a widely used guide to screenplay formatting and style.[1] He is a former script analyst at Warner Bros. and has co-written screenplays with his wife, Kathy Riley, including the 2004 German feature film After the Truth.[2]

Career

Riley worked for over a decade as a script analyst in the story department at Warner Bros., reviewing hundreds of screenplays for feature development.[3] He and his wife co-wrote the screenplay for After the Truth (2004), a courtroom drama produced in Germany and directed by Roland Suso Richter.[4]

The Hollywood Standard

First published in 2005 by Michael Wiese Productions, The Hollywood Standard has been updated through multiple editions, with a third edition released in 2021.[1] It is regarded as a standard reference in film schools and among professional screenwriters for its detailed guidance on screenplay formatting and style conventions.[2][5]

Teaching

Riley has taught screenwriting at various institutions, including John Paul the Great Catholic University and the Act One Program in Los Angeles.[6]

Personal life

Riley is married to screenwriter Kathy Riley. Together they co-author screenplays and collaborate on writing projects.[7]
